Pre-Approval is required to sit for this exam.

The Business and Law exam is also required.

Scope of Work:

STRONG>New Mexico Roofing  /STRONG>This license requires two years experience. The holder can install, alter or repair roof systems on existing roof decks to create a weatherproof and waterproof protective membrane, with or without insulation, using asphalt, pitch, tar, sealants, felt, shakes, shingles, roof tile, slate, urethane or any other approved materials, including the preparatory work necessary to bring such surfaces to a condition where roofing can be installed, sealed or repaired. Includes cutting, shaping, fabricating, and installing of sheet metal such as cornices, flashing, gutters, leaders, rainwater downspouts, pans, prefabricated chimneys, at or near roof lines, metal flues, or doing any part of any combination thereof, which relate to and are incidental to the principal contracting business of installing roofing.

Reciprocity: Currently, New Mexico does not have reciprocity with any other state for the Roofing Classification.
New Mexcio does not require Continuing Eductaion at this time.

This exam is 60 questions, open-book with a 150-minute time limit. 75% correct is passing.

As of 7-1-10 either the 2006 or 2009 editions of the International Residential Code and the International Building Code may be used.  As of 1-1-11 only the 2009 edition may be used.


American Contractors currently does not offer seminars for the New Mexico Roofing License.

We carry many of the approved references for the New Mexico Roofing GS-21 contractors license. It is recommended that individuals taking this exam be familiar with the information contained in all the references used to make up the test questions and answers.
